Our New Book on AI and Jobs
So much exciting news to share this month!
New Upriver Press Book, Endorsed by a Nobel Prize-Winning Economist
Our new book titled Messy Jobs: The Work That AI Cannot Reach goes on sale June 22.
As stated by Rafaella Sadun, a Harvard Business School professor, the book is “a rigorous, original, and engaging account of how AI will reshape organizations and labor markets, and what it will take to thrive in them.”
MIT economist and Nobel Prize winner Bengt Holmström says that Messy Jobs applies “simple, powerful logic to illuminate how AI will reshape work and organizations.”
The book, which counters fears that AI will eliminate millions of jobs, is designed to help business leaders, professionals, students, and parents discover the lasting economic principles that will help us all figure out how to develop our careers in the age of AI.
The authors form a remarkable team. Luis Garicano is a professor at the London School of Economics. Jin Li is a professor at the University of Hong Kong where he leads the Centre for AI, Management, and Organization. And Yanhui Wu is the head of the economics department at the University of Hong Kong who was previously an award-winning journalist in China.
In addition to the endorsers quoted above, the book is also praised by David Autor, MIT professor of economics; Alex Imas, director of AGI Economics at Google DeepMind; Patrick Collison, the CEO of Stripe; Evan Guo, CEO of Zhaopin Group, the largest career development platform in China; and Tyler Cowen, professor of economics at George Mason University. Mattei is a force to reckon with on this crucial issue of our times. We hope you watch her discussion with Johnson at this link.
New Research Published by Phoebe Jordan
One of our terrific authors is Phoebe Jordan. Her book You, Me, and Autism: How to Support, Befriend, and Work with Autistic People integrates her academic research with her personal experiences as an autistic person. We are excited to say that Phoebe’s book won a silver medal from the Independent Book Publishers Association, a well-deserved honor for a great book. In addition, Phoebe’s new academic research was just published by The National Autistic Society. All her work is designed to help autistic people, and their friends and relatives, live better lives.
